India is within rights to carry out Air Strikes in PoK

LCA-Tejas

A day after martyrdom of eight CRPF personnel in Pampore ambush, BJP’s firebrand MLA Ravinder Raina, joined by others, sought in Legislative Assembly, air-strikes on terror modules in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. While National Conference tried to silence them by browbeating, the PDP’s silence too reflected disapproval of what its alliance partner demanded BJP legislators are within their rights to seek surgical operations against terrorists in PoK, an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir.

The NC and PDP have never disowned PoK, which is substantiated by the fact that 25 seats are still reserved for the representatives of that part of the state. Therefore, by not endorsing sane demand of the BJP, both, the PDP and NC, are actually showing no interest to end the scourge of terrorism, which has hurt Kashmir the most.

The PDP and NC should not forget that on 21st May 2014- deadliest air-strikes killed 60 terrorists and wounded hundreds others, including civilians, in Mir Ali area of North Pakistan. The fierce strikes were carried out by the Air Force of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the targets were Muslims (though terrorists have no religion) having allegiance to Taliban and al-Qaeda terror modules. The death and destruction did not invoke any sympathy or protests across Pakistan or in the Kashmir Valley, on this side of the border, either.

That being the case, why so much hullo bulla over the condemnation of lunatic terrorists, who spilled blood during the holy month of Ramadan. The terrorists have no religion, no nationality and no identity as a human even. That is what the Kashmiri intelligentsia and the political class, especially National Conference, is making out in the wake of matter-of-fact statements over cowardice act of terrorists. Lot of politics is being played over this issue in Kashmir these days.

The Pakistan apologists in Kashmir leave no opportunity in describing deadliest terrorists as ‘misguided youth’ but at the same time ensure that thousands participate in their funeral processions as martyrs. If ‘misguided’ then how come they become martyrs? Second and most important, the terror monsters who cause attrition to security forces or innocent Kashmiris in the Valley are projected as ‘misguided youth’ and when the same lot of zealots commit sacrilegious acts in the Jammu region, every effort is made to let them off as lunatics or mentally unsound. Remember, how the Aap Shambu desecrator is being provided olive branch by proving him to be an insane youth by a segment of the State Administration without ascertaining his credentials and motives behind committing the offence, which could have serious ramifications but for the sagacity of the peace-loving people of Jammu.

Kashmir has many contradictions, the biggest being attitude of some people towards terrorists and terror sponsor Pakistan. When hurt voices (in the aftermath of martyrdom of eight CRPF personnel in Pampore) sought surgical operations against terror havens in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, commotion was witnessed in some political outfits. They generated euphoria over ‘war hysteria’ being created over the issue, ignoring the fact that tackling terrorism is fundamental duty of a sovereign nation.

India is within its rights to carry out operations against terrorists, wherever they are, including Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Those objecting to this right are forgetting that PoK is part of Jammu and Kashmir and as many as 25 seats continue to remain reserved for them in the Legislative Assembly.

India is committed to ‘liberating’ PoK and restoring it back to Jammu and Kashmir. The unanimous resolution passed by Parliament on 22 February 1994, inter allia resolved, “This House notes with deep concern Pakistan’s role in imparting training to the terrorists in camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir, the supply of weapons and funds, assistance in infiltration of trained militants, including foreign mercenaries into Jammu and Kashmir with the avowed purpose of creating disorder, disharmony and subversion: reiterates that the militants trained in Pakistan are indulging in murder, loot and other heinous crimes against the people, taking them hostage and creating an atmosphere of terror; Condemns strongly the continued support and encouragement Pakistan is extending to subversive and terrorist activities in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir”.

It is, therefore, not a question of tackling terror in PoK alone but also crushing it with iron fists in the Valley, which is the primary duty of the nation. The weak-kneed policy of New Delhi might have prolonged elimination of terrorism in Kashmir for 26 years but India has not forfeited its right to use appropriate force, including air-prowess, to crush militant modules in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. If Islamabad can do it in Waziristan, what stops India from moving towards Muzaffarabad to crush the snake in its backyards?    But the rulers that may be in the national capital won’t do so as they believe pumping of funds may win them war against terror in Kashmir.

India Working on Strategy to Divide Pakistan into Four Pieces

Addressing the students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and newly nominated Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy said "India would never want to declare a war against Pakistan. He also said that if Pakistan desires war, India is ready for it. Pakistan has no power. It is frustrated and weak. Their civilian government is useless. It's a dummy government. If the military wants a war, we are ready, but we are not going to declare a war."

He also added, "We have always been a country which has never gone to war with any country unless the war is forced on us. Pakistan government is useless and lacks confidence. On the other hand, India is confident, we have already ripped them apart into two last time, next time we will break them into four pieces." Concluding this, he claimed, "India is already working on a strategy to divide Pakistan into four if the neighbor didn't mend its ways."

Subramanian Swamy, who is well known for his straight forward and controversial remarks, also added "The groundwork has begun , thought tomorrow my party may call it my personal opinion but we are all working on it" although no one at the government level admits to what he said. Source

Combat Capable Rustom-II UAV to be tested in Chitradurga

rustom-2-uav

The first flight of India's new combat-capable unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Rustom-II is scheduled to be held by the end of July in Chitradurga test flight range.

Scientists at the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) would move to the test range later this week for the trial as a window between July 28 and August 2 would be kept open for the flight in the presence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Once ready, the medium-altitude, long-endurance (Male) UAV is likely to be an asset for the military not only for its surveillance capability, but also for its ability to be used as an unmanned armed combat vehicle in the line of the US’s Predator that New Delhi is interested to buy.

Rustom-II is a very big platform with a range of 250 km. However, for the first flight we will be flying it up to a distance of 50-100 km,” said a source associated with the UAV’s development.

Compared to Rustom-I that was test flown for the first time in November 2009, Rustom-II will be having Electronic Intelligence, Communication Intelligence, Medium and Long-Range Electro-optic Payloads and Synthetic Aperture Radar that will enable it to see through the clouds.

Rustom-I is a primitive vehicle with minimal capabilities. Rustom-II, on the other hand, has several capabilities, including the ability to carry weapons,” G Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri.

Once fully ready, Rustom UAVs are meant to replace Israeli Heron unmanned aerial vehicles being used by the air force and the navy. The aircraft is named after former Indian Institute of Science professor Rustom Damania, who pioneered aviation research in India in the 1980s.

Addressing a seminar on UAV in Delhi last November, an ADE official stated that the three services initially projected a requirement of 76 of these platforms.

However, like many other defence research and development organisation (DRDO) projects, Rustom-II is also facing time overrun as the production schedule, first fixed for 2016, has now been pushed to 2017 with the possibility that it may get further delayed.

The biggest challenge faced by the scientists is the excess weight of the airframe. The airframe had a weight of about 2,400 kg by 2015 end, which ADE scientists would have to bring down to about 1,700 kg in the final version for accommodating every sensor package.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and Bharat Electronics Ltd partners DRDO in the development of Rustom-II and has committed several hundred crores as financial support.

French help likely to boost prospects of Kaveri Engine

Kaveri-Engine

The Defence Ministry may revive the stalled Kaveri engine project with French support with Paris offering technical assistance on the indigenous engine. The development has come as one of the offsets for the multi-billion dollar contract to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets for the Indian Air Force.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) folded up its three-decade-old Kaveri gas turbine engine project after spending nearly Rs 2,000 crore as the indigenous engine could not generate adequate thrust required for the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft. The French experts who examined the Kaveri project felt about 25-30% development work on the engine remains, which can be completed in the next 18 months to make the engine flight worthy by 2018.

Once the engine is ready, then future upgrade of Tejas could have them in their cores rather than buying jet engines from abroad. Failure of the Gas Turbine Research Establishment, Bangalore, to deliver the Kaveri engine forced the Defence Ministry to pick up 41 US-made GE 404 and 99 GE 414 engines for Tejas.

The Kaveri engine revival may be done by French specialist Safran, which manufactures the M88 engine for Rafale as a part of the offset. Other French majors like Thales, MBDA and Dassault, too, could be a part of the deal, which is being negotiated between the two governments.

A previous attempt by the DRDO to rope in the French company as technical consultant to revive the engine did not work out due to objections from the IAF that felt more time would be lost if the DRDO once again tries the collaboration route after spending two decades with the Russians with no result.

India moves to bolster its Anti-Submarine Warfare Capabilities

Boeing-P-8-Poseidon

India’s Cabinet Committee on Security last week has cleared a $1 billion U.S. order of four Boeing P-8I Neptune maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) for the Indian Navy. These will join the Indian Navy’s eight existing P-8Is.

The Indian Navy also ordered 73 indigenously developed Varunastra heavy weight torpedoes for $132 million developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory and manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited, the Varunastra will arm the Indian Navy’s surface warships.

Comment and Analysis

The Indian Navy has been engaged in improving its anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities, namely in the form of the P-8I Neptune MPA and Kamorta-class ASW corvette. The Indian Navy commissioned its second Kamorta-class corvette, the INS Kadmatt, in January 2016. Two additional Kamorta-class ASW corvettes, the Kiltan and Kavaratti, are expected to enter service in late 2016 and early 2017.

South Asia’s naval environment has become relatively dense in terms of ASW systems. This is not just a result of the Indian Navy, but Pakistan as well, which operates a fleet of P-3C Orion MPAs and is seeking four MILGEM ASW corvettes from Turkey. In light of this, it is likely that both countries will seek to ensure that their conventional submarines are as quiet (i.e. low-acoustic) as possible. This will be of particular importance to Pakistan, which is hinging its anti-access and area denial strategy on its submarine fleet.

India is planning to equip the two of its six planned Scorpene submarines with air-independent propulsion (AIP) systems, while the Pakistan Navy has eight AIP-equipped submarines on order from China. India has an indigenous AIP system (via the Defence Research and Development Organization or DRDO) in its late stages of development, while the approach Pakistan will take in terms of AIP with its Chinese submarines has not been disclosed. In any case, the challenge posed by the P-8I, Kamorta-class corvette, as well as the Indian Navy’s ASW-capable frigates and destroyers is significant.

Prithvi Missiles to be retired and replaced with Agni Missile Series

Prithvi-Missile

Missile Man and former President APJ Abdul Kalam's dream project Prithvi will now be replaced by Agni series and other missiles. Prithvi, India's first indigenous ballistic missile, has served more than its intended use and will now be phased out.

The new Agni series will include Agni-1 (700 km), Agni-2 (2,000 km), Agni-3 (3,000 km), Agni-4 (4,000 km). Agni -5 is expected to have the longest striking range of 5,000 km.

Sources in the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) say that Agni-1 will be used to shoot targets at a range of 220 km. The Prithvi series would strike targets at a distance between 150 to 350 km.

While Agni-1 was to be replaced by another ballistic missile Prahar (with a striking range of 150 km), the idea was rejected by users, fearing that such a short-range missile could trigger a nuclear war. The enemy might panic at the sight of a ballistic missile of a short-range and could launch a nuclear attack in retaliation.

However, while the missile has been rejected by the Army, it has attracted a few countries who are now approaching India to export them.

With the Agni series and cruise missile BrahMos, India can now take care of targets between 30 to 5,000 kms. The BrahMos can take down targets from 30 to 300kms while the Agni can take care of the ranges beyond that.

India and US preparing for a 'Big War' against Pakistan

India-and-US-preparing-for-a-Big-War-against-Pakistan

Hafiz Saeed, 26/11 mastermind and chief of the banned group Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), today said that India and US are signing agreements against Pakistan and are preparing for a “big war”. Saeed made these remarks while leading Eid prayers at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. He said that Muslims must unite “to fail the design of infidels”.

He said international players are conspiring against Pakistan’s nuclear programme. “The United States and India are signing agreements against Pakistan and there has been a preparation of a big war”, he said, alleging “drones are parked at Indian airports and our rulers are engaged in a fight with opposition.

Saeed, who has a $10-million bounty for his capture, termed Pakistan and Saudi Arabia’s growing distance with the US as a “blessing in disguise”. “It is a blessing in disguise that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are getting distanced from America. This will lay foundation of the Islamic Union which is the need of the hour for the Islamic world,” he said.

He condemned the terror attack in Saudi Arabia and alleged the involvement of “foreign hands” in destabilising the Muslim world. A large number of people offered their prayer behind Saeed amid tight security with police personnel and JuD security wing members deployed in and outside the stadium. Saeed has been leading the Eid prayers at Gaddafi Stadium for the last many years.

India has repeatedly asked Pakistan to bring Saeed to justice for allegedly masterminding the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which were blamed on Lashkar-e-Toiba, a group Saeed founded. He has often been seen addressing anti-India rallies in Pakistan, but Islamabad says it has no proof against him.
